Expansion Points were neutral tech buildings that afforded additional ground control to the military officer who captured them. They were seen during the events of Tiberium Wars and Kane's Wrath.

Background[]

Though rare, these structures were extremely valuable to commanders who sought to expand into new territory. These were typically found in strategically important locations, such as near high-value Tiberium fields and crucial choke points.

Expansion Points could be captured by properly trained personnel - namely, a GDI Engineer, Nod Saboteur, or a Scrin Assimilator. Presumably by interfacing with the owning commander's control center, they allowed for the deployment of structures around these buildings in addition to existing base territory.

These structures appeared to be extremely durable, even without maintenance. During GDI's offense against the aliens in Rome, GDI forces utilized an expansion point across the chasm they sought refuge behind to bring the battle to the enemy.

Game Structure[]

Expansion Points are among the rarer tech buildings in Tiberium Wars and its expansion pack. While not as universally useful as others such as Tiberium Spikes, they were still extremely useful for taking new territory. Buildings can be deployed as normal around captured expansion points, which allows players to capture and hold locations with much greater ease and with the support of defensive structures.

Compared to the stand-ins that field commanders could deploy, they were far more powerful and cheaper, though admittedly conditional. Each faction's respective expansion unit (GDI Surveyors/Nod Emissaries/Scrin Explorers), these could only be considered to have the expense of the unit that was required to capture them ($500), while the constructible versions costed a larger $1500. They additionally were capable of supporting structures immediately upon capture, while their deployable variations required a deployment period whereupon they had to defended until they had completed. The ground control afforded by the structure was also larger than that of their manually buildable variations.
