Gosh Darn Mongolians! is a side mission for Commander's Challenge.

Kenji tells the FutureTech Commander that his forces are going to rampage through the village and destroy his base. The Commander and Kelly Weaver responded with a suggestion that they'll destroy them and save the village. The mission is thirty-third in line before the Ready to Roll Out operation and after the Harbinger is taken to its main headquarters.

Briefing[]

The Imperial King Oni may not look like an obvious match for a main battle tank, but has more than proven itself in battle. Commander Kenji happens to be training a bunch of them here to smash through things with even greater efficiency. We would dearly love to understand what makes the Onis tick--we're not even sure if there's a flesh-and-blood pilot inside of those things. Why don't you spoil Kenji's little exercise so we can find out?

Background[]

Weaver sends the FutureTech Commander to north-east China in stealing Kenji's King Oni from his base north-east of the player's position. Kenji will send in his King Oni to attack the Futuretech Commander on the field, but unfortunately it was destroyed. The FutureTech forces then destroyed Kenji's main base and is defeated by them. The next target for FutureTech is in Canada where Douglas Hill has a Pacifier FAV that the Commander must get to store in his arsenal of Allied technologies.

Strategies and notes[]

  • At the start of the mission, several Heroic King Onis gradually advance towards the player's base between time intervals, smashing through the walls.
  • The player can destroy the walls with a force attack, allowing the player to access the rest of the map before the initial King Onis break through. Kenji will not advance any faster for the walls having holes in them.
  • Kenji has one Greater King Oni. This unit primarily remains to defend his base, but he will rush it at the player's base if all of his initial King Onis are destroyed before they reach the player's base (such as with airstrikes).
  • Tankbusters deal Explosive damage instead of Rocket or Flak damage which King Oni are vulnerable to.
  • Kenji will build a squadron of Mecha Tengu to defend against aircraft, though they primarily hang out around his base.
  • The player should avoid leaving land unless they have access to bombardment ships or amphibious units from your dockyards powerful enough to fight the King Oni. The Greater King Oni is also dangerous to fight with aircraft.
  • Kenji does not train/build any units besides King Oni and Mecha Tengu, so any bridges destroyed will remain so until the player repairs them. The player can use this to expand onto the islands with relative safety by destroying the bridges leading to them. This also means the player will not need to protect the Veteran Academy as long as the two bridges leading to it are destroyed.
  • Units that can quickly disable King Oni, such as Rocket Angels or Terror Drones, will be extremely useful. Cryocopters with their SHRINK beam can also nullify the threat of their charge. Units that need to get close like Tesla Troopers will have greater difficulty as Kenji will try to crush them.
  • Do not forget about Honorable Discharge, as Kenji will make use of it to cause damage to any units too close to the King Oni. The player can also use this for their own forces if playing as the Empire and relying on ground units.

Trivia[]

  • The name of this challenge is a reference to the South Park episode "Child Abduction is Not Funny", in which Chinese restaurant owner Mr. Kim attempted to build a wall around South Park, but a group of Mongolians constantly destroyed the wall, simply because that is what they do whenever Chinese people put up a wall.
    • "God damned Mongolians!" was one of Mr. Kim's recurring lines in that episode.
