Background[edit | edit source]
At the same time that Michael McNeil battled Kane in Cairo, Ilona led her elite troops in an important battle against Nod in Kenya. Despite Nod's use of Tiberium-laced weapons, they broke through into the base. Ilona quickly ordered the soldiers who entered with her to confiscate all Nod equipment, and it was the last order she ever gave - the building was booby trapped and exploded. Ilona was awarded a posthumous Medal of Honor. In the battle, she lost three dozen men.
Because they took place at the same time and were close together, GDI covered up McNeil's operation by saying that Kane died in Kenya, and while his death was unconfirmed, some of his genetic material was found in the wreckage of the building.
