The radar scan is a tactical aid deployed by GDI that scans a given area using advanced satellite and radar sensors.

Background[]

The Radar Scan is GDI's Intelligence-type support power. Presumably a result of GDI's frustration with the Brotherhood of Nod's deception and trickery using optical camouflage technology and hit-and-run tactics to conquer GDI's slower armored columns, the Radar Scan allows GDI commanders to reveal an area hidden by the Fog of War and any stealthed units that may be hiding within that area - thus giving those commanders important information on the status of said location.

Game Effect[]

The Radar Scan is made available after the commander constructs a Command Post, and thereafter can be used at the cost of 300 credits.

The support power reveals the area selected by the commander, if it is not currently revealed, and will also detect any stealth units hiding within the target area - making it a very useful asset when one is trying to avoid ambushes or suspects an enemy presence is in an area. The latter ability also makes it a particular pain to commanders from the Brotherhood of Nod, as their stealthed armor columns can spontaneously be discovered by lucky (or observant) GDI commanders and will be forced to take action.

The Radar Scan truly shines when used in conjunction with offensive support powers (such as the Orca Strike, Orbital Strike, or Shockwave Artillery), since all non-superweapon offensive support powers can only be used in places that are currently not covered in the Fog of War for the commander. In addition, unit delivery support powers that do not use transports (for instance, Zone Troopers/Zone Raider Drop Pods) can deliver heavy troops such as Zone Troopers and Zone Raiders into an area revealed by Radar Scan, allowing them to assume advantageous positions, catch the enemy off-guard, and potentially exploit an undefended and unaccounted-for vulnerability to wreak massive damage upon the enemy.

Like all structure-based support powers, enemy Nod commanders or Scrin Foremen can gain this ability in the event that they capture a GDI Command Post.
