A Vulcan cannon was an anti-infantry defense upgrade for the GDI component tower, used during the Second Tiberium War and the Firestorm Conflict.

Background[]

A Vulcan turret mounted a pair of 50mm Vulcan cannons, which were effective against enemy infantry and light vehicles such as attack buggies and attack cycles. However, it should be noted that rocket infantry had better range than a Vulcan cannon and could therefore destroy it from outside of its range.

However, against Tick tanks and heavy assault units like the cyborg commando, it proved ineffective, both because of its limited range and the lack of firepower.

Legacy[]

Vulcan cannons were replaced by watchtowers following the Firestorm Conflict.

Game building[]

The low cost of the structure meant that GDI could deploy it in very high numbers. Hammerfest base included quite a number of Vulcan towers, which were used as exterior defenses. Due to the fact that it did not have any minimum range, it was sometimes paired with RPG launchers that were effective against enemy armour. Furthermore, as a rather low tech structure, it was present at all GDI bases from Phoenix Base to Hammerfest.
