|“||Victory? But at what cost? How many lives have been sacrificed in the name of one man's revenge? There is no joy in this victory, only regret...
- Zhao, "Carnage"
Character development[edit | edit source]
In the animatics, Zhao appears as a senior officer. He is accompanied by his protege, a young APA commander who wears a cap and goggles.
In "Redemption", Zhao expresses his gratitude to his protege for saving his life. He rewards the young officer with a sword. The duo then express their thoughts about an apparent alliance between the EU and GLA.
In "Carnage", Zhao walks across a battlefield littered with corpses and vehicle wrecks. His protege runs up to him, rejoiced that his leadership has led the APA to victory. Zhao, however, doubts they were victorious due to the massive loss of life. He then orders the commander to tell Agembe about what has happened.
