Background[]
The Amazon was once one of the largest rainforests on Earth, covering almost half of the South American continent. Due to global Tiberium proliferation and its rapid spread into warm equatorial climates after the First Tiberium War, ion storms devastated many of the Earth's forested regions, including the Amazon. One such disaster was the South America Firestorm, which had destroyed almost 5,000 square miles of forested area throughout Central and South America.[1]
By 2047, the Amazon had become an arid desert and was designated as part of the Brazilian Yellow Zone.
Third Tiberium War[]

During the Third Tiberium War, Nod had a secret R&D facility in the Amazon Desert focused on developing Tiberium-based weapons.[2] When a similar lab was captured in Casabad by GDI forces, GDI discovered Nod's plans for constructing a Liquid Tiberium bomb.[3] Kilian Qatar ordered the Nod Commander to defend the Amazon lab from a major GDI assault, even though Qatar was unaware of the exact nature of the research conducted there at the time.[4]
Following the Third Tiberium War, much of the Amazon area became part of Red Zone R-6.
