CnCNet is a community-run multiplayer service which allows people to play Command & Conquer Gold, Red Alert 1, Dune 2000, Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2 and their respective expansions online. CnCNet 5 uses an external client in order to chat, host and join games entirely bypassing the game menus. CnCNet 5 currently supports Command & Conquer Gold, Red Alert 1, Dune 2000, Tiberian Sun and Yuri's Revenge, while Red Alert 2 is played through a "Red Alert 2 Mode" modifier within the Yuri's Revenge client.

CnCNet supports mods such as Red Dawn, Mental Omega (3.0 and newer), Dawn of the Tiberium Age, C&C Reloaded, Twisted Insurrection, and Red Resurrection. Other mods do work, but they do not get their own lobby and instead use the general game lobby.

CnCNet 4.0 was discontinued on 25 May 2016, along with a CnCNet-hosted Renegade master server list. The latter was restored on 23 April 2017.

On 17 June 2018, CnCNet's peak player count was 1082.

Usage[]

CnCNet 4[]

When the application called 'cncnet.exe' is placed in the game folder and executed, it would start the game connected to CnCNet, the player then needed to open the LAN menu. The latest fan patches for Command & Conquer Gold, Red Alert and Tiberian Sun contain a -LAN argument that could be used to make 'cncnet.exe' start the game with the LAN menu open.

Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge required no-CD patches to run CnCNet due to their copy protection that interfered with CnCNet's coding.

CnCNet 5[]

To use CnCNet 5, download the available game packages from the official website. It will then download the required files and eventually show a form where a nickname can be typed in. When that is done, the CnCNet 5 lobby will be launched.

Every time that CnCNet 5 is loaded, it will check for updates.

It is currently available in the following languages: English (default), Croatian, Dutch, Estonian, French, German, Polish, Russian and Spanish, with the exception of Yuri's Revenge which is available in English only.
