RA2Sovietlogo The following is based on the Soviet campaign of Red Alert 2 and might contradict canon.
The Americans have foolishly gathered a fleet in a small harbor on the eastern coast of Florida. Assisted by General Vladimir in his Dreadnought, you will force a landing on the hostile shore and set up a base. When ready, you will strike out against the capitalist pigs and crush them under the heel of Soviet justice.
- Mission briefing

Operation: Hostile Shore is the second mission of the Soviet campaign in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2.[1]

Plot[]

I could destroy this American Navy with a little rubber duck!
- General Vladimir
Romanov 2

Romanov points a finger to Florida for the Soviet Commander to lead an attack on an Allied fleet. Yuri is watching the Kremlin's window from Romanov's desk as a note.

The United States was so surprised by the speed and ferocity of the Soviet invasion that the Soviets had already captured Washington DC, along with a few states on the eastern seaboard. Although the Americans were retreating, they were still putting up a fight. Soviet leaders discovered that the Americans were building a navy in Florida.

In order to prevent the Allied Navy from interfering with Soviet operations, General Vladimir and a young commander were dispatched to eliminate the Allied naval base that was capable of sending out strike fleets along the Atlantic Ocean.

Walkthrough[]

This is the first mission with a proper base to play around with. When the mission starts, Vladimir's Dreadnought will begin pounding the Allied forces on the beach from his ship, taking out the pillboxes and GIs, as amphibious craft land and unload conscripts, Rhino tanks, and an MCV. You take control when the unloading is underway, and get to choose the spot where to deploy the MCV. The initial beach is a good choice, as it has the nearby ore fields and two Allied refineries that can be either destroyed or captured to gain two money crates. Since harvesters are not captured with the refinery, they can be sold quick. Alternatively, capture one of them with an engineer to immediately gain access to the war factory, but delay income.

From this point on, the mission is to wipe out the Allied presence in Florida Keys, to the south. The isn't well defended, but has numerous Grizzly tanks waiting, while several destroyers wait at the entrance to the bay. Allies won't bother you much, aside from the occasional GI platoon, giving you time to expand. Destroying hotels will provide veteran conscripts at the base, dropped by air, and many vehicles and buildings also spawn crates. There is also a gem field to the extreme northeast, and two derricks to the northwest (mind the alligators).

To complete the mission, you will need submarines and Rhinos with conscripts to attack both the land and water base. Rhinos are self-explanatory and while stronger against Grizzlies, they still need to be used in mass to avoid excessive micro and losses. Once the construction yard is destroyed, the Allied AI sells off every building they have and commence an all-out attack with what they have, which might be a nasty surprise. Note that the mission will only complete once all forces are destroyed, necessitating the use of submarines.

Note that once the first submarine is completed, Vladimir will charge in guns blazing, only to be beaten off and flee to Moscow.

Debriefing[]

Par time (Easy & Normal Difficulty): 00:25:00
Par time (Hard Difficulty): 00:15:00
Below par
The American fleet and Naval base were destroyed so quickly that your soldiers were able to capture several American officers.
Above par
The American fleet was destroyed. While Soviet casualties were high, this is of no concern so long as you continue to bring victory.:

The mission's events also set up the next one, as General Vladimir quickly returned to Moscow and was credited with the defeat of the Allied Navy, together with the Order of Stalin by Premier Romanov at a military parade in the Red Square. The Commander, who did most of the work, was debriefed by Yuri, who appeared to be sympathetic to the Commander.
