Developed at the Air Field, Laser Missiles allow Raptor and Stealth fighters to do 25% more damage.
- Generals manual(src)

Laser-Guided Missiles was an aircraft upgrade available the generals in the employ of the USA, deployed during the GLA Conflict.

Background[]

While America's pilots were well-trained, battle conditions and enemy interference had the potential to cause minor inaccuracies in ordinance targeting. While this did not ultimately alter much in way of the battle's overall outcome, it still meant that pilots often did not deal the full extent of damage that their missiles were capable of inflicting. To solve this, American engineers designed a system that allowed a jet's missiles to follow a predetermined path, designated using a laser, which drastically increased accuracy.

Game Effect[]

Available from the American air field, the Laser-Guided Missiles upgrade increased the damage of most American fixed-wing aircraft by 25%. Note that, despite the upgrade's premise, said aircraft do not damage infantry with any greater accuracy.

This upgrade was especially an asset to Airforce General Malcolm Granger, whose King Raptors' already-impressive array of ordinance became even more deadly under the influence of these systems. Additionally, the additional plating applied to Granger's variant and the attached passive defense system (a point-defense laser) made them far more likely to reach their target and unload their missiles.

Affected Units[]

The following units benefit from this upgrade:

Trivia[]

  • The Laser-Guided Missiles upgrade appears to only affect the damage dealt by the impact of a Stealth Fighter's missiles, and not the extra blast effect from "Bunker Buster" warheads.
  • Both being upgrades that increase damage of only fixed-wing aircraft of their respective factions, the Tactical Nuke MiG's namesake upgrade could be called its Chinese counterpart.
  • Oddly, the cursor used to control a firing Particle Cannon is internally labeled as "LaserGuidedMissiles" - perhaps suggesting that the upgrade was once meant to be something more than a damage bonus.
