25px-Disambig This article is about the United States of America in the Generals universe. For its appearance in other universes, see United States of America.

The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (US) or America, was a country primarily located in North America. An economic, technological, and military superpower, the United States was one of the most powerful nations in the world during the 21st century.

During the GLA Conflict of 2013,[3][4] the US and its ally, the People's Republic of China, engaged the terrorist group Global Liberation Army in a worldwide military conflict. Initially, the US military won a string of victories, destroying the GLA capital at Akmola and eliminated Dr. Thrax, the leader of the GLA's biochemical weapons program. Assured of its victory, the US began withdrawing its overseas forces.

However, the GLA was able to regroup under General Mohmar and launch a successful campaign against the US. American forces stationed in Europe sufferred multiple crippling blows, including the loss of the Mediterranean Fleet and the European command center in Stuttgart, Germany. In order to enhance homeland security, the US completely withdrew from Europe and retreated into isolationism.

History[]

Before the GLA Conflict[]

Little was known about the history of the US before the GLA Conflict. It fought in the First Iraq War approximately ten years before the GLA Conflict and in the Second Korean War at an unknown date.[2] Prior to the outbreak of the GLA Conflict, it had adopted a policy of isolationism and non-involvement.[5]

When the terrorist group Global Liberation Army began building its influence in Central Asia and provoking China with a series of incursions, the United States provided satellite reconnaissance to the United Nations Security Council, but refused to contribute any peacekeeping troops due to the UNSC's previous refusal to support US counter-terrorist initiatives in the Middle East. The US government rejected the Security Council Sub-Committee's warnings that US forces in Asia or elsewhere would eventually cross paths with the GLA.[5]

Early involvements[]

Gen American Bombing Run

After a nuclear attack by the GLA on Beijing, China launched a campaign to eradicate GLA forces in Asia.[6] Once the Chinese military pushed the GLA out of China, the GLA seized control of Balykchy. In response, the US military provided air support during the Chinese assault on the city, bombing the entrenched GLA forces.[7]

Gen Mob Riot

Angry mobs destroying Astana

Later, the US military assisted the United Nations in delivering aid supplies in the Almaty Region. However, American transport planes were attacked and shot down by GLA forces, and a small US base in the area was destroyed, with much of the supplies plundered by the GLA.[1] Soon after, the GLA incited a riot in the city of Astana, which was under joint Chinese-US occupation. Angry mobs destroyed and looted much of the city, providing more funding for the GLA.[8]

In Turkey, the US air force launched a series of strikes on GLA forces from the Incirlik Air Base. In order to drive America out of the region, the GLA attacked and destroyed the base.[9] Meanwhile, the US took control of a GLA toxin storage facility on the western shore of the Aral Sea. However, the GLA quickly counterattacked, retaking the facility and wiping out the American base in the region.[10]

Joining the war[]

Gen Soyuz Attack

The aftermath of the Soyuz rocket attack

Following the GLA's capture of the Baikonur Cosmodrome and the launching of a Soyuz rocket with a toxin warhead, the US finally saw the true threat possessed by the group. In response, the US military launched its own campaign against the GLA.[11][12]

Gen US vs GLA

American Crusader tanks engaging GLA Scorpion tanks outside Baghdad

After tracking GLA biological weapons to Baghdad, the US launched a siege of the city and broke through GLA forces on the third day. To stop the Americans, the GLA fired a SCUD storm hidden in the nearby mountains at Baghdad, killing a massive number of civilians. Despite heavy GLA resistance, US forces destroyed the SCUD storm and secured Baghdad.[12]

The US then tracked GLA leaders to Al Hanad, Yemen. However, GLA shot down multiple American Comanches with Stinger missiles and captured their pilots, forcing the US military to prioritize rescuing them.[13] Later, the GLA ambushed a US division in the Hindu Kush mountains, forcing it into full retreat. Most of the US forces retreated safely with assistance from a Comanche base near the Salang Pass.[14]

Gen GLA Pursue

GLA forces pursuing retreating US forces

Undeterred by the losses in the Hindu Kush, the US discovered a major GLA training camp on the coast of the Caspian Sea. In response, US forces launched an amphibious assault on the camp and destroyed it.[15]

In an attempt to end the hostility with the GLA, a UN negotiator code-named Blue Eagle attempted to hold a peace conference with the GLA in Kabara City, Kazakhstan. However, before the conference could begin, the GLA slaughtered Blue Eagle and the escorting UN forces. Having known that the GLA could not be trusted, the US stationed a force nearby, which then moved in to destroy the GLA base in the area. In an attempt to cut off the US forces, the GLA destroyed a nearby hydroelectric dam, but the US forces still managed to destroy the main GLA base in the area.[16]

Gen Akmola

The GLA stronghold in Akmola

In Southeastern Kazakhstan, a rogue Chinese general joined the GLA and helped them fortify their mountain stronghold. The mountain stronghold was heavily defended by tunnel networks, so the US military deployed the particle cannon superweapon and fuel air bombs, ultimately wiping out both the GLA and the rogue Chinese forces.[17]

Finally, US forces surrounded the GLA capital in Akmola. With assistance from China, the US launched an assault on the heavily defended GLA compound and completely destroyed the heavy GLA presence there.[18]

Zero Hour[]

ZH Naval Base Rocket

Following the loss of its capital, the fragmented GLA began retreating. However, due to their control over the Baikonur Cosmodrome, they continued to threaten all of Europe. After repelling a Chinese attempt to retake the facility, the GLA launched another modified rocket at a US naval base in Northern Europe. To remove this threat, the US launched an attack on Baikonur, infiltrating a strike force into the base aboard a train. After the US ground forces wiped out the anti-air defenses around the launch pad, a B2 stealth bomber was called in and destroyed it using a MOAB.[19]

USA - Snow Fall

The GLA toxin lab in Mount Elbrus, moments before being buried by an avalanche

To defend a civilian relief convoy carrying supplies to a dock in Somalia, the US deployed the aircraft carrier CVN-88 Daedalus and the Battleship Escort Group Dreadnought to support a small number of ground forces.[20] After destroying the GLA base attacking the dock, the US found documents revealing the presence of a GLA toxin research facility in Mount Elbrus, Russia. Working with a Chinese Black Lotus agent, US commando Colonel Burton infiltrated the facility. After freeing a number of US prisoners, Black Lotus downloaded data from the facility, and Burton triggered an avalanche using explosives, burying the facility.[21]

Following the capture of the GLA toxin facility, the US learned that the GLA general known only as Dr. Thrax was responsible for running the toxin program. US intelligence tracked the funding for Thrax's research to the Amisbad oil fields in Iran. Subsequently, the US launched an attack on the oil fields and removed the GLA presence there.[22]

ZH Thrax silo captured

Dr. Thrax's missile silos, after being captured by American forces

With his funding cut off and US forces closing in, Thrax threatened to unleash missiles loaded with Anthrax Gamma, the deadliest strain of anthrax ever created, upon major US cities. To stop an even greater catastrophe than the Baikonur disaster, the US launched an operation to destroy or secure all of Thrax's missile silos. During the mission, a GLA general joined the US forces, believing that Thrax's obsession with toxin would kill them all. In the end, the US stopped the launch of the missiles. With Thrax apparently dead and the GLA fragmented once again, the US began withdrawing its overseas forces.[23]

Dr. Thrax and his arsenal of toxic missiles have been destroyed. The cause he served, the Global Liberation Army, has once more been run to ground. Weapons of mass destruction, like those launched from Baikonur, no longer threaten the free world. By land, sea, and air, American troops head home, battle weary but proud... and as the smoke clears, perhaps we are a step closer to lasting peace.

GLA counteroffensive[]

ZH Deathstrike Flight

Unbeknownst to the US, the GLA leadership had abandoned Dr. Thrax to his fate, believing him to be too unstable. Meanwhile, the true GLA leader, General Mohmar "Deathstrike", escaped from American pursuit aboard a stolen American plane.[24]

Reagan 84

The destruction of the USS Reagan

With Mohmar secured, the GLA swiftly dealt with its splinter cells, including the one led by Prince Kassad, and reunified.[25] US intelligence warned that major actions by the group are imminent. Meanwhile, the GLA sought to expand their reach to all of Europe by striking at the US Mediterranean Fleet, stationed at Matala, Crete. A GLA strike force captured a particle cannon and used it to sink the aircraft carrier USS Reagan.[26]

Following the destruction of the Mediterranean fleet, the US began reevaluating its overseas presence, with rumors that they would completely withdraw from Europe. Emboldened, the GLA launched an attack on a toxin facility on the American west coast. A strike team led by Jarmen Kell stole toxins from the facility and transported them away using a stolen American cargo plane.[27]

ZH GLA monument

GLA forces cheer as they erect monuments in Coburg, Germany

With even American soil under threat, calls for withdrawing from Europe to bolster homeland security grew louder in Washington. Meanwhile, the GLA was determined to hasten this decision. They captured a Chinese base in Stuttgart, Germany, and used it to launch an attack on the US Central Command, also located there. With the loss of its European command center, the US began a full withdrawal from Europe to defend its homeland. Many of the abandoned bases fell to the GLA, allowing them to sweep across Europe, taking over cities and erecting monuments.[28]

Aftermath[]

After the US abandoned its European allies and withdrew its forces, its influence became limited to its own borders and NATO became a political afterthought. In its place, a China-led military and economic alliance known as the Eurasian Unity League was created.[29] [30]

Military doctrine[]

The best weapons in the world have "USA" stamped on their side.
- Generals instruction manual

In battles, the US relied on its well-equipped, technologically sophisticated troops. During the GLA Conflict, they fielded a number of advanced weapon systems, including directed energy weapons and unmanned drones. Most US ground vechiles can be upgraded with an accompanying drone to fulfill various functions, from scouting to combat support. The most advanced US weapon was the particle cannon, which fired a focused particle beam at an orbital mirror that reflects it onto enemy targets.

However, the high performance of American units did not come cheap, so the US had a heavy emphasis on survivability. All American vehicles have an ejection system, potentially allowing pilots to survive the destruction of their vehicles. All US structures automatically repair themselves, and when destroyed, Rangers emerge from them. The US Ambulance could heal injured troops on the battlefield and clear toxin and radiation using a sprayer.

The US heavily relied on its air force, which was fast, versatile, and powerful. The Raptor could secure air superiority and strike at ground targets, the stealth fighter could strike deep behind enemy lines, and the Comanche could provide close air support for its ground troops.

Technological level[]

The US was the most technologically advanced faction during the GLA Conflict, making use of various advanced, though expensive battlefield technologies, most notably energy weapons and unmanned drones.

  • Fusion power: The US used cold fusion reactors to power its military bases, which did not leak radiation like China's nuclear reactors when destroyed. Some US generals made use of improved versions of these reactors.
  • Drones: Nearly all US vehicles could be equipped with an accompanying drone, which performed a variety of support functions, including combat support, repair, and scouting. The US also made use of sentry drones and spy drones for scouting enemy positions.
  • Laser technology: Though still experimental at the time of the GLA Conflict, some US vehicles were equipped with weaponized lasers. The most common type was the point-defense laser, which was used to intercept incoming rockets and missiles. The Avenger was equipped with a pair of anti-air laser cannons, which could shoot down aircraft with pinpoint accuracy. General Townes experimented with more advanced laser weapons, such as the laser tank and the laser defense turret.
  • Microwave technology: The US microwave tank generated a field of microwave energy which slowly cooked nearby enemy infantry. It could also focus its energy to disable structures or clear garrisoned buildings.
  • Space technology: Thanks to orbiting mirrors, the US particle cannon could strike anywhere on the battlefield. The US also had a network of spy satellites, which it used to uncover hidden GLA bases during the GLA Conflict.
